Fiji’s PM opts out of Politics
Fiji’s interim Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama will not be contesting the 2009 elections saying he has no interest in politics.
Commodore Bainimarama said he will return to his job as the Military Commander once the country has elected its new Prime Minister, however, he says he wants the Peoples’ Charter in place first.
“We did this for the nation; we did not do this for ourselves so I am not saying if I join politics is for me, but if we have the Charter anyone can run the government.
“I have been told that only I can run the government but that is wrong and incorrect.
“There are thousands of people that can do the job but we need the Charter to provide with the basis to move forward but no I am not going to stand for politics,” said Cmdr Bainimarama.
