Paul Walker’s Daughter Filed a Lawsuit Against Porsche
The 16-year old daughter of the Hollywood actor Paul Walker filed a wrongful death suit against the car company Porsche. She claims that the vehicle Paul was in (that caused his death) has a number of design flaws.
Paul Walker, one of the main characters of the Fast & Furious movies, was a passenger on a Porsche Carrera GT that a friend was driving as it struck a pole and burst into flames last November 2013. Paul’s friend also died along with him.
After a four-month investigation, the police released a statement that the Porsche Carrera GT was travelling at a speed of 94 mph in a 45 mph zone when it has unfortunately crashed.
However, Meadow Rain Walker, Paul’s teenage daughter, still sues Porsche for unspecified damages, with an argument that the flaws were the reason why her father got trapped inside the car after the crash.
According to the legal documents cited by TMZ, “Walker’s seatbelt snapped his torso back with thousands of pounds of force, thereby breaking his ribs and pelvis.” This means that he wasn’t and couldn’t escape the hell he was in.
Rodas’ Widow Filed Complaint against Porsche
The complaint filed by Paul’s daughter is similar to what was filed by Kristine M. Rodas against Porsche last May 2014. The company, however, pushed back in this lawsuit, as they claim in response that this spring that “Roger Rodas’ death, and all other injuries or damages claimed, were the result of Roger Rodas’ own comparative fault.”
Porsche Releases a Statement
The spokesperson of Porsche, Calvin Kim, released a statement on Tuesday in response to the news about Meadow’s claims, “We have not seen the lawsuit and therefore cannot comment on its specifics. As we have said before, we are saddened whenever anyone is hurt in a Porsche vehicle, but we believe authorities’ reports in this case clearly established that this crash resulted from reckless driving and excessive speed.”
Porsche in Fast & Furious
It is important to note that Porsches were used in many Fast & Furious movies, including their 996 GT3 RS model which was driven by Paul’s character in the 2011’s Fast Five. Despite the accident, the Universal still released Furious 7 that has been a massive international box office hit in April 2015. Although the fate of Paul’s character remains unclear by the end of the film, it still garnered $1.5 billion in profits worldwide; becoming the 5th highest grossing movie yet.
Another installment of the Fast & Furious franchise is set to be released on April 14, 2017.
