Raven Symone has caused a noise on Twitter after claiming that she would discriminate job applicants who have “ghetto” names during an episode of The View on Thursday, October 8th.

During a conversation about a new study which was published in the “Journal of Evolution and Human Behavior”, Symone, the outspoken co-host of the talk show, admitted that if she was an employer who is looking to hire new employees, she wouldn’t consider those with names that sound too ethnic.

She said during the show, “Just to bring it back, can we take back ‘racist’ and say ‘discriminatory’, because I think that’s a better word. And I am very discriminatory against words like the ones that they were saying in the video. I’m not about to hire you if your name is Watermelondrea. It’s just not going to happen. I’m not going to hire you.”

As soon as she realized she’s begun uproar over her insensitive comments, Raven Symone, the co-host of The View, took to Facebook to say something about what she had said during the show.

Raven wrote to her official Facebook, saying “My comments about discrimination have spun out of control. I’d like to begin by saying that I was not attacking a specific race, but repeating a name that was said in a viral video which has received over two million likes.”

Raven was referring to a segment on their show in which the panel of hosts discussed about Americans being discriminatory against people based on their names.

The Twitter world was quick to jump on her comments, in which many have called her racist and ignorant.

Christopher B. Pearman, Raven’s dad, also reacted through an open letter he posted on Facebook about his daughter’s remarks: “Children grow up and become influenced by many things, situation and people. I certainly don’t agree with what she said… but she is damn near 30 years old. She’s a grown a** woman making grown a** mistakes. We all have been guilty of this. Raven is a really Beautiful, Sweethearted, Human Being. I should know. Her mother and I Loved her Very much and will always support her and have her back. Even if sometimes………she says some dumb S#%T!”

Raven apologizes for her remarks and also said that her comments were said in jest and didn’t actually reflect her “actual” opinions on hiring.
