Chicago Cubs Advancing to the NCLS
Chicago Cubs performance last Tuesday night was very impressive! They were in control of their game against the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League Central. They won 97 games during the regular season, which earned them 3rd place in their own division. The cardinals, on the other hand, won 100; while the Pittsburgh Pirates had 98 wins. The Cubs won against the Pirates during the wildcard game and also won against the Cardinals in the Division Series; thereby advancing to the NLCS. Because of that, they’ve planted their flag as they survived the best division in baseball.
Theo Epstein, the president of the Cubs, said, “This is one of the best divisions in the history of baseball. I’m not saying that. The numbers say that. To go through the heart of it to get the NCLS makes it even more meaningful. It resonates even more for us.”
They actually did some things that the past Cubs teams wouldn’t do. Thus, they have become the standard that the future Cubs team will be measuring up to. This might be the postseason stint that would redefine the Cubs franchise that is pretty famous for their poetic heartbreaks.
Having bad memories of the past postseasons, the Cubs had won 3 straight against their bitter rivals as they beat these two really good teams to advance to the NCLS.
“To go through the Pirates in the wild card game and now the Cardinals, we feel like we can beat anybody. We’re a tough team to play no matter who it is,” says Arrieta.
After their 6-4 win against the Cardinals last Tuesday, the Cubs will be moving on to the National League Championship Series for the first time since 2003. This marks their 4th time in the history of their team to win the overall postseason series.
