DeAndre Gets Booed by the Mavericks Crowd
DeAndre Jordan was booed by Dallas Mavericks fans from the start until the game was finally over.
He was also booed during the pre-game while he was shooting free throws and was cheered by Mavericks fans when he missed them. Even as he touched the ball briefly on offense, you can quickly hear howls from fans.
You can also hear equally impassioned cheers for the team Jordan has popularly spurned in free agency as Mavericks won 118-108 against the defensively-challenged LA Clippers at the American Airlines Center. During the game, Dirk Nowitzki scored his season high of 31 points; while Wesley Matthews, who followed through on his pledge to the Mavericks, scored 25.
Jordan, on the other hand, ignored the boos of the sellout crowd wielding signs that read “Hey DeAndre, my word is my bond” or “42% FT shooter 100% coward”, or the echoing chants of “DeAndre sucks!” during the final minute.
When asked to comment about angry fans after he backed out of a 5-day commitment to Mavericks this summer, Jordan said, “They’re obviously going to boo and heckle a little bit, but I thought it was going to be a lot worse.”
There were a lot of Anti-Jordan signs, as expected, including one that has a pair of flip flops taped to it, offering it to Jordan as a Christmas gift.
Surely enough, Jordan committed 3 straight fouls midway through the 4th quarter and even risked to be fouled out by going after Nowitzki.
Jordan missed 4 of the 6 attempts at the free-throw line, and Rivers pulled him. By the time he was called back in, Dallas has led the game for good. All in all, Jordan made 3 out 9 from the line.
Jordan, who was booed with every touch of the ball, scored 9 points with 11 rebounds with a minus-23 scoring margin during the game.
