Cyclone PAT no danger to Fiji

Tuesday, February 09, 2010

Tropical cyclone PAT which has formed East of Fiji poses no threat to the country and its expected to head towards French Polynesia.

Director for meteorology Rajendra Prasad says the only weather system that will affect Fiji is the trough of low pressure that’s been affecting the eastern part of the Fiji group.

“The trough of low pressure has moved to the north of Fiji, but it may slip south later on in the week. For the moment, the weather is mostly fine except for some moist conditions with afternoon and evening showers, and storms about the main islands. We have just named a tropical cyclone to the East of Fiji – Cyclone Pat, but just like the two previous Tropical Cyclones Nisha and Olie, TC Pat has no direct threat to the Fiji Group and will be heading towards French Polynesia.”

The cyclone is expected to move north but may slip back towards the south later this week.
