Yellow Ribbon Project launched

Saturday, June 28, 2008

Interim Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says there is a great need to create awareness to give ex-prisoners a second chance.

Sayd-Khaiyum yesterday at the soft launch of the Yellow Ribbon Project. The Fiji Prisons and Correctional Services rehabilitation program is aimed at promoting the acceptance of ex-offenders back into society. Sayed-Khaiyum explained the reasons behind government’s supports for the project.

“Rehabilitation takes place not just through up-skilling the prisoners themselves. Not just from giving them a sense of identity - and giving them the various experience that go out once they are released to be able to fend for themselves. It goes further than that in the sense that we the community outside must be willing to accept them once they come back into the community.”
