FBCL wins at FAME Awards

Fiji Broadcasting Corporation Limited scooped three awards at the Fiji Media Awards for Excellence last night.

Media people from around the country converged at the Raffles Trade Winds Convention Center to witness the presentation of the 2008 FAME Awards.

Clarence Dass, a producer for FBCL won the award for Best Locally Produced Music Feature, Radio Mirchi personality Shammi Lochan took out the award for Best On-Air Personality, and the award for Best Locally Produced Spoken Feature went to Ratu Solo Lewanavanua.

Other names that stood out in the Vodafone Radio Awards Category last night were Vijay Narayan and Dave Lavaki of CFL, while Art and Soul and Razor made an impression in the Television Advertising Categories.

The best News report on television went to Ranbeer Singh of Fiji TV, while the Colonial Print Award went to Fiji Sun. There were no winners for the Best Sports Report Award, however Fiji TV’S Satish Narayan was commended for his story on Fiji’s teen sensation Akesa Drotini.

 Meanwhile Fiji Media Council chairman Daryle Tarte, in his welcoming address, acknowledged the work of all journalists and those involved in the media industry.

Amongst all the awards that were given out last night was the lifetime achievement award that went to Vijendar Kumar.

“An integral part of the FAME Awards to recognize someone that has high time contribution to Fiji Media and induct him or her in the Media hallo fame. In the past years we have awarded the award to Robert-Keith Reid and Sternly Ritova. This year the council would like to give the award to a man who has served the Fiji Media for many years with great distinction and became the first the local to become the editor of the Fiji Times – Mr Vijendra Kumar.

Meanwhile the Robert Keith-Reid award for outstanding Journalism went to deported Fiji Sun publisher – Russel Hunter.
