Aussies urged to visit FijiWednesday, March 04, 2009
Australians have been encouraged to come to Fiji under fantastic holiday packages with savings of at least 50% in a bid to entice more travellers here. The packages, put together by Tourism Fiji, the Fiji Islands Hotels and Tourism Association (FIHTA) and Air Pacific, will cover air fares with taxes, hotel transfers and five nights' accommodation with all meals. According to resort managers on the Coral Coast and in the Mamanucas, New Zealand arrivals in Fiji have fallen more sharply than those from Australia. While the Australian packages are being finalised for this month, one of the all-inclusive packages for New Zealanders is priced from $NZ799 and holidays must be booked between now and March 1 for travel until mid-June. Tourism forecasts for 2008 was 245,000 but the actual annual total turned out to be 233,801 after a lower-than-expected December figure of 22,454 as the world economic meltdown began to have an effect. According to Victor Sharan, regional general manager of Air Pacific in Sydney other predictions were 282,000 for 2009 and 325,000 in 2010. Fiji Broadcasting Corporation |
