Government’s decision intact: Bai

Monday, June 29, 2009

Fiji's Prime Minister has re-iterated that there will be no Methodist Conference this year and if politics is not eradicated from within the church in 2010, there will also be no conference next year.

Speaking to FBCL News this morning, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama said there has not been any change in the decision made by Government and the military - and church members who have not received any directive from the church that the conference will not be held this year should stop any preparation they may still be doing.

Bainimarama says that those that have completed their preparations, should keep what they have prepared for next year’s conference.

He said he is well aware that some church leaders are still advising members of their flock to keep on with their preparations and has warned those members that to continue is tantamount to disobedience which naturally has consequences.

Meanwhile the Methodist church standing committee will be meeting on Friday to find a solution to government’s decision.

Meanwhile the Prime Minister will be making a national address on Wednesday the 1st of July.

Bainimarama will address the nation on Fiji’s strategic framework for change.

He had earlier stated that he will soon be addressing the nation on the roadmap to 2014.

The address will be at the Tradewinds Convention Centre at 10am.
