$0.5million allocated for bus fareTuesday, October 20, 2009
Fiji Government has allocated an initial half a million dollars to the Ministry of Education to start its bus fare assistance program for students. The Prime Minister’s Office permanent secretary Pio Tikoduadua says the half a million dollars is to start off the program. “This point in time government has dispersed around half a million dollars already to the ministry of education to commence these assistance work.” Tikoduadua says students will be given their bus fares by their teachers on a daily basis and he’s calling on all parents to make sure they confirm with their children if they have received their bus fares from their schools. “I would urge all parents when the children come home please ask them where is there bus fare that was given by teachers which will take them to school the following day and the parents can keep their bus fares for them and give it to them before they go to school the next day,” he said. “I don’t take it as a big deal in this occasion because children who commit by bus to school already bring their fares from home are given their fares by parents to go to school so already they are entrusted with the responsibility only on this occasion the parents won’t be giving them there fares but the teachers at school will be giving their fares so any advice or guidance to the children in terms of securing their bus fares will be most welcome,” said Tikodudua. “We hope that this offer of assistance by government will be able to assist particularly those families who get to send their children by bus.” Students will be given their first ever State sponsored bus fares from today, when they go home this afternoon, they will be taking their bus fare for tomorrow morning.
