Baby delivery in hospital increasing in FijiTuesday, October 27, 2009
All babies in Fiji are being delivered at a health centre and this is an indication that Fiji’s health primary health care system is working. The Minister for Health Doctor Neil Sharma says last year alone, there were 19,000 live births with more than 98% of occurring in hospitals and health facilities. “Our aim has been to ensure that these 19,000 newborns were eclusively breasted for the first 6 months of life and that by their first birthday –they would have been vaccinated against those 9 childhood illiness-in doing so we could then prevent many children from serious illiness like meningitis, pheumonia, hepatitis B and even death.” The development of these babies are closely monitored to ensure that they receive all immunization shots.
