Australian Govt denies refusing visasTuesday, November 03, 2009
The Australian Government has denied refusing visas to the members of the Sri Lankan judiciary being seconded to the Fiji judiciary. In a statement, the Australian High Commission says transit visas has been approved to allow these judges to travel through Australia. The Australian government adds that these judges and magistrates, instead withdrew their visa application after deciding to travel to Fiji via Korea. On the issue of trying to discourage these Sri Lankan judges, the Australian government says all they did was advise these individuals that they will be subjected to Australia’s travel restriction policy, if they take up positions within the Fiji government. It denied telling them they will not be allowed into Australia for medical treatment for themselves or their families. Since December 2006, Australia has imposed travel restrictions on those responsible for the coup and on senior appointees of Fiji’s interim government. Fiji Broadcasting Corporation |
