Human trafficking trial startsThursday, November 05, 2009
The trial of three locals and one Indian businessman accused of running a human trafficking racket started today with the first prosecution witness taking the stand. The Director of Public Prosecutions witness is one of the 12 Indian nationals that were brought into the country illegally by the four accused. The DPP has confirmed it will use all 12 as material witnesses in this trial. The 12 were allegedly tricked by the four accused to pay between $6000dollars to $8000dollars for jobs in Australia and New Zealand. The case has been adjourned to tomorrow.
