Indian Government investigatesFriday, November 13, 2009
The Indian Government is carrying out its own investigations into human trafficking following the discovery of a people trafficking network where 12 Indian nationals were brought to Fiji from India after being promised jobs here and in New Zealand and Australia. Indian High Commissioner to Fiji Prabhakra Jha says they are taking this matter very seriously and are currently carrying out their own investigations into the issue. “I have taken it very seriously. We are trying to pinpoint those who are based in India and of course there are two people involved from Fiji. I don’t want to take their name and for this the Fiji government is also trying and they have brought them to justice. And we are trying that the agents who are available in India, the government of India should take action against them.” Professor Jha adds his government will get to the bottom of this matter. “I am waiting for the names, addresses etc of them. The matter is presently in the court, as you know, and I can not talk much about it. And I’m sure the government of India will take very serious actions against these people because we are completely against human trafficking because innocent people are involved in it.” Fiji Broadcasting Corporation |
