Fiji reiterates its support for US War effortsWednesday, November 18, 2009
Fiji will always remain a close ally of the United States Of America and this has been evident in the many military and civilian relationships the two nations have established ever since World War Two. The Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Provincial Development Manasa Vaniqi made the comment at the US-Pacific Disaster Management Workshop which was opened in Suva yesterday. Vaniqi says Fiji has always supported the US as evident in the US Multi National Forces in the Sinai and most recently in Iraq. “As regards the fight on Terrorism in IRAQ, we were the first to lend support when many had declined. Our participation is further demonstrated in a number of American Security Companies serving in IRAQ.” Vaniqi’s comments comes in light of the recent moves by other Pacific Island countries to accept aid from countries other than traditional Pacific allies like the US and Britain. The Solomon Islands is currently courting aid from the US’s arch enemy Iran and this is causing quite a storm in the Pacific already. Fiji Broadcasting Corporation |
