The Fiji government believes its informal meeting with the European Commission in Brussels this week can progress to another level, which will eventually see the resumption of formal “consultations between the two parties. This was after the Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama briefed senior European Commission officials about his planned institutional, judicial, constitutional and electoral reforms. Both parties did exchange views on resuming formal consultations under the Cotonou Agreement. Bainimarama also assured the EC of his government’s commitment to uphold the rule of law and to respect for human rights.
