Teleni to tackle human traffickingSunday, November 22, 2009
Even though it might still be a new form of crime in Fiji, Police is carrying out capacity building workshops and partnerships to deal with human trafficking rackets. Commissioner Commodore Esala Teleni says the border police and the community policing are heavily involved with Director of Public Prosecution’s Office and other agencies in mapping out strategies to combat this issue. “So it will NOT only be addressed by Police but other key stakeholders. We are planning to do more workshops on planning strategies on how to deal with human trafficking. And it has been mentioned and reported by international bodies but yes police is also looking at that and we are working with relevant agencies.” Teleni adds they are NOT trying to address it in isolation as it is a national issue.
