Three quakes in past 24 hoursMonday, November 23, 2009
Fiji experienced three separate quakes in the past 24 hours. Tremors were felt in areas of Ba, Tavua and Vatukoula this morning following a 3.8 magnitude earthquake. The quake was located at South West of Tavua at a depth of 10km. The Mineral Resources Department says it is too small to trigger any alerts. Yesterday afternoon two quakes struck off Fiji. At 1.51pm a 5.3 magnitude quake struck at a depth of 621 kilometers. The second and bigger one measuring 6.3 struck at 506 kilometers. Fiji sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire therefore is subject to seismic activity due to the movement of tectonic plates. Fiji Broadcasting Corporation |
