Use Fiji's EEZ legally: DPPMonday, February 08, 2010
DPP Aca Rayawa says the long arm of the law will clamp down on those caught fishing illegally in Fiji’s E-E-Z. The warning comes after the trial of a foreign fishing vessel master Lee I. Lang. Land was convicted of fishing within Fiji’s E-E=Z breaching the Marine Spaces Act. Assessors returned a unanimous verdict of guilty. The State has also filed submissions for the forfeiture to the State – of the fishing vessel valued at 164,000 dollars – and the proceeds of the sale of the catch on board the vessel amounting to more then 108,000 dollars. The forfeiture hearing will be held on Wednesday – while LANG will be sentenced on Friday. Fiji Broadcasting Corporation |
