$1.5M for textbooks assistance

Tuesday, February 09, 2010

About $1.5m is being used to provide textbooks assistance to primary schools for 2009-2011.

The exercise began last year with about $1m taken from its annual budgetary allocation.

The Ministry used that money to buy books from the Government Supplies and Government Printer.

This year, the Ministry allocated another $400,000 towards the purchase of books by private authors – locally, purchase of books from NZ and payment for printing of textbooks.

More then $200,000 from this year’s allocation will cater for the provision of books destined for the Eastern, Northern and part of the Western education districts.

The costs do not include transportation fees.
