NZ and Fiji Foreign Ministers to meet this weekendFriday, February 19, 2010
NZ Foreign Affairs Minister Murray McCully is expected into the country today to hold talks with his Fijian counterpart Inoke Kubuabola. McCully and Kubuabola have been engaged in talks over the last month to try to re-establish good diplomatic relations between the two countries. NZ has imposed travel sanctions on members of the Fiji government, while Fiji has expelled a number of New Zealand’s most senior diplomatic officers in the country. However, both countries have committed to addressing their differences and find a way forward. FBC News has been told that McCully will be arriving in the country today, and is expected to hold talks over the weekend with Mr. Kubuabola, but no other details could be established regarding the proposed meeting.
