Sanctions the main issue in Fiji and NZ talks

Wednesday, February 24, 2010

The removal of sanctions against the Fiji government was the main item on the agenda when Fiji’s Foreign Minister met his NZ counterpart last week, says Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama.

Bainimarama says Ratu Inoke Kubuabola and Murray Mccully discussed the lifting of sanctions, which have been in place since December 2006.

The Prime Minister told FBC News that other issues such as the return of High Commissioners to the two countries were minor issues, as the removal of sanctions was Fiji’s priority.

Bainimarama said sanctions against his government must be removed, but that Ratu Inoke was doing the talking on Fiji’s behalf.
