29 civil servants sacked last yearWednesday, March 10, 2010
Twenty nine civil servants were sacked last year for various disciplinary reasons. The Public Service Commission dealt with 71 disciplinary cases last year. 22 civil servants were given varying levels of penalties, seven had charges against them dropped, while 13 were re-instated after being found not guilty. PSC chairman Josefa Serulagilagi says the Commission is committed to rid the civil service of abuse, mismanagement and corruption. In all cases, the Commission says proper investigation was carried out and the cases were dealt with quickly. This is due to the new streamlined disciplinary procedures and mechanisms, which ensure cases are dealt with quickly but with fairness and justice. All disciplinary cases within the civil service is handled by the Public Service Disciplinary Tribunal which was set up last year. Fiji Broadcasting Corporation |
