The Fiji Battalion in Sinai has been tasked with being the Multinational Forces and Observers eyes and ears on the ground, with the current situation unfolding on the border.

Fiji Battalion Operations Officer Sinai, Major Jack Moceica, says they’ve have been tasked with gathering information after Palestinians breached a wall separating the Gaza Strip and Egypt.

Speaking to Radio Fiji Gold News from Sinai, Major Moceica says the Fiji battalion is not affected in anyway.

“Basically what we are doing at this stage is to observe and monitor the movement that is happening from Gaza into Egypt and out of the designated zone of the MFO which we are part of,” he said.

“That is basically what we do - provide information feeds into the battalion headquarters which is essential information that we pass on to the MFO operations or the Multi National Force Operation Headquarters.”

Three Fiji checkpoints are located near the area where Palestinians flooded into Egypt – and one location is reportedly 100 metres from the security wall that was breached.
