‘Media restricting laws faintly overreaction’Thursday, March 20, 2008
Chaudhry yesterdayed said Fiji’s media is not responsible with the freedom it’s been given. Taken from / By: Google Ratuva speaking to Radio Fiji News said that the move by the government could be a slight over-reaction to reports by the media. “I don’t think anyone should fear the media. Again I think at the same time it’s important for the media to be sensitive and to be responsible in relation to what it reports.” Dr Ratuva says the relationship between the government and media has in many ways been determined by their particular self interests. “And I think at some point there has to be some conversion or dialogue between the media and the government in terms of building up a good relationship. “At the end of the day, whatever tension there is between the media and the government, it’s really the people who suffer,” he adds.
