Global energy crisis felt

Monday, March 31, 2008

Pacific ACP Trade Ministers have been told that the global energy crisis is now being felt in the region.

The ministers who’ve just ended a two-day meeting in Nadi have heard that everyone is being affected by the rapid fuel price increase.

Meeting chairman Hans Joachim Keil says alternative ways are being looked at by the Pacific Island countries as prices of goods continue to rise almost daily.

“We discussed other alternatives of energy, solar and wind power you know bio fuel and its always in the case as invention is the mother of necessity because there is a hardship there and people use their brain to get together in alternative source of doing things.”

The two-day meeting ended with an outcome document, which outlined the decisions of ministers.

One of the outcomes was the collective commitment by the region to proceed as a group with the negotiations on a comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement with the European Commission by end of this year.
