Fiji media should carry on says Hunter

Fiji Sun publisher Russell Hunter says the Fiji media should carry on with its duties undeterred.

Hunter’s comment came as he arrived in Sydney earlier this afternoon after being deported earlier today.

Asked why he was declared a prohibited immigrant by the Interim Government, Hunter says it had to do with reports on alleged tax evasion by Interim Finance Minister Mahendra Chaudhry.

“In my view, the fact that we revealed Mahendra Chaudhry’s tax evasion and secret overseas bank accounts.

“We have documents and we’re quite happy about seeing it in public. It’s well documented. He says he’s going to sue so if he’s going to sue then why deport me,” he said.

Hunter says the Fiji media is undeterred.

“The trouble is there is no law in Fiji. The law is what certain people say it is on any given day and if you don’t like then you can argue about it later.”
